According to a press release issued by the village authority on Saturday, Pradeep left for Ukhrul on the morning of October 30 but did not return home. The statement claims that he was allegedly detained in Ukhrul by members of the Tangkhul community after being misidentified as a Kuki.
Clarifying his identity, the authority stated that Pradeep's father, Baburam Soram, also known as Lambu, originally hails from Dumka, Jharkhand, and came to Litan in the 1990s. He reportedly worked as a mason and was involved in constructing the Litan Sareikhong Baptist Church.
The statement further explained that Baburam later married a Kuki woman, Nemlhing, and adopted the Kuki name Seingam through his association with the Christian faith. His son, Pradeep, also adopted the name Ngamminlal for church fellowship.
The village authority maintained that despite using a Kuki name, Pradeep's family identity is Soram, with roots in Jharkhand.
Expressing concern over the reported detention, the authority described the alleged action as unjust and contrary to Christian principles. It urged the concerned authorities, security forces and other responsible agencies to intervene immediately and ensure his safe recovery and unconditional release.
The statement warned that the situation could become increasingly serious if Pradeep was not returned safely and held the government and concerned authorities responsible for any untoward incident arising from the alleged detention.
Pradeep is survived by his wife, Wahhoichan. The village authority has also shared a contact number, 8837484159, for information concerning his whereabouts.
There has been no independent confirmation of the alleged detention or the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
