IMPHAL, Feb 11 – Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has officially flagged off a 30-member media delegation for an international exposure visit to Vietnam.

The tour, which began on Wednesday, is a significant initiative aimed at empowering local journalists and promoting a more informed society. The group includes 25 members from the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) along with five officials from the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

During the flag-off ceremony in Imphal, the Chief Minister encouraged the journalists to use the trip to learn about international reporting standards and Vietnam's socio-economic development. He noted that such visits are vital for professional growth and for broadening the perspectives of those who shape public discourse in Manipur.

The mission focuses on:

Manipur Chief Minister visits Slain Woman’s Family Amid Unrest

Jiribam, Feb 11, 2026 – Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand visited the family of Zosangkim Hmar on Wednesday (Feb 11) to offer condolences following her brutal death in late 2024.

The visit took place in the Jiribam district, where the Chief Minister met with the relatives of the 31-year-old Kuki-Zo teacher. Zosangkim Hmar was killed on the night of 7 November 2024 during a wave of ethnic violence. She was allegedly gang-raped and murdered before her home in Zairawn village was set on fire, reportedly by Meitei militants.

The tragedy of Ms. Hmar’s death was followed by further bloodshed just days later. On 11 November 2024, 10 Hmar village volunteers were shot dead in Jakuradhor-Karong village, located in the Borobekra sub-division.

Reports allege that the volunteers were killed by CRPF personnel acting in coordination with Meitei militants. These back-to-back incidents have significantly heightened tensions between the communities and the security forces in the region.

During his visit to the grieving family, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring order and holding those responsible to account.

“Guided by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji’s vision for peace, I met the family of the deceased woman... expressing condolences and assuring justice,” Khemchand stated on X (formerly Twitter).

The victim’s family and local community leaders continue to call for a transparent investigation into both the assault on Ms. Hmar and the subsequent killing of the village volunteers. By visiting the site in person, the Minister aimed to signal that the administration is focused on legal redress, though the atmosphere in Jiribam remains fragile.

Kuki Families Seek Refuge at Chassad Assam Rifles Camp

In Chassad village, Manipur, a deep sense of unease has settled over the community. Fearing potential attacks from neighbouring Tangkhul villages, Kuki women and children have been forced to leave their homes, seeking safety within the walls of the Assam Rifles Chassad Battalion camp. These families are currently huddled in temporary shelters, surrounded by the few possessions they could carry. As they wait in this fragile sanctuary, we hope for a return to calm and pray that peace and understanding will soon prevail between the Kuki and Tangkhul communities.

MLA Letzamng Haokip Appeals for Peace in Ukhrul

Henglep, Feb 11, 2026: Letzamang Haokip, Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 57-Henglep (ST) Assembly Constituency, has expressed deep concern over the recent incident of violence at Litan Sa-reikhong village in Ukhrul district.

In an appeal issued on Tuesday, Haokip stated that the incident reportedly began with a scuffle between local individuals and should not be viewed or given a communal interpretation. He emphasized that at a time when Manipur is already facing an unprecedented crisis, such incidents are deeply distressing and unfortunate.

The MLA said that violence only deepens wounds and weakens collective efforts towards peace, harmony, and mutual understanding.

He urged all sections of society to exercise maximum restraint, avoid violence, and act responsibly to protect lives, property, and the fragile social fabric of the state.

Haokip also appealed to both the Central and State authorities to act swiftly, fairly, and impartially to contain the situation, restore normalcy, and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected villagers.

Calling for unity and calm, he encouraged people to choose dialogue over discord and compassion over confrontation, and to work together in the larger interest of peace to prevent further escalation.

KSO Urges Calm After Kuki–Tangkhul Scuffle in Ukhrul

Lamka, Feb 11, 2026: The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur District, on Tuesday issued a press note expressing concern over a reported scuffle involving Kuki and Tangkhul Christian individuals in Ukhrul district. According to the organisation, the incident allegedly stemmed from a drunken brawl followed by a misunderstanding, resulting in localised tension.

KSO stated that the situation is currently confined to the concerned area and is being handled by responsible authorities and community leaders. Emphasising the need for calm, the organisation urged residents of Churachandpur district not to panic and to remain vigilant.

The students' body also appealed to the public, particularly social media users and page administrators, to refrain from circulating unverified, misleading or inflammatory content that could further aggravate the situation.

In its statement, KSO assured that the safety and security of Tangkhul Christian brothers and sisters residing in Churachandpur district would be respected and safeguarded. It called upon the public to extend full cooperation in maintaining mutual trust, peace and communal harmony.

The organisation concluded by urging all concerned parties to exercise restraint and work collectively to preserve peace and harmony. Helpline numbers were also shared for public assistance.

KNA-B Urges Restraint Over Litan Village Violence

THE Kuki National Army–B (KNA-B) has expressed serious concern over the recent violence in Litan Sareikhong Village and appealed to both communities to exercise restraint and responsibility.

In a press release issued by the Office of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), Government of Kuki State, General Headquarters, the group stated that the Litan incident should not be viewed as a communal conflict. According to KNA-B, the incident began as a scuffle between individuals and must not be misinterpreted or expanded beyond its local context.

The statement warned that any attempt to widen the issue into a broader ethnic confrontation would only deepen suffering and instability in the region.

KNA-B also expressed concern over what it described as an attempt to burn Chassad village along the Indo-Burma border, allegedly by Tangkhuls. The group stated that it would protect its people and ancestral land. It further noted that as Tangkhuls and Kukis live together even in Burma (Myanmar), peaceful relations would benefit both communities.

Calling for an immediate cessation of all acts of arson and hostilities, KNA-B urged Christian communities to remain cautious and avoid falling into what it termed "classic escalation traps" set by inimical forces.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that peace, restraint, and reason must prevail.
