Para-medical student gang-raped in bus

New Delhi, December 17, 2012 []PIT]: A 23-year-old para-medical student from Uttarakand, who was travelling in a bus with her male friend, was allegedly gang-raped inside the vehicle and then thrown out of it, police said on Monday. The male friend, who is an engineer and currently working in a firm, was also attacked and thrown off the bus near Mahipalpur in south Delhi late last night. The girl was allegedly gang-raped in the bus and her friend brutally assaulted when they were going to Dwarka from Munirka here last night.They were then thrown out of the bus near Mahipalpur flyover, police said. After they raised an alarm, both were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre from where the girl was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital.Her condition is stated to be critical. A case has been registered at the Vasant Vihar Police Station. The girl, who studies in a college in Dehra Dun, is in the capital for her internship. Reacting to the incident, NCW chairperson Mamata Sharma said, "Such incidents are increasing in Delhi. Police and government should be really alert....We will get an inquiry done and will also enquire with police as to what action has been taken so far."
