Manipur: Disabled people seeks separate Directorate

IMPHAL — The differently disabled peoples organization from the hills and plains of Manipur comes together under the aegis of the State Platform for Disabled Peoples Organization (SPDPO) held a protest rally and sit-in-protest 'Dharna' infront of the state’s Social Welfare Directorate office, Imphal on August 30, 2018.

 The State Platform for Disabled Peoples Organization (SPDPO) demands:-

1. Creation of a Separate Directorate for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and to constitute State Advisory Board for PwDs as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPD) Act, 2016.

2. Framing of State Disability Policy and channeling the RPD Act, 2016 at the earliest.

3. Skill Development Training Programs for the PwDs in the state.

4. Accessible public places and buildings.

5. Amendment and inclusion of Disable Games and Sports in the state budget policy and reconstitution of the State Paralympic Committee.

6. Sanctioning of funds for the state's Disabled Pension Scheme (which is pending from the year 2015 till date).
