Ccpur losses its political leader

A veteran and senior politician from Churachandpur Mr Phungzathang Tonsing breathed his last at the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on 19 Dec 2018 around 7.30pm. He was 79.

An Ex-minister and President of National People's Party, Mr Tonsing left behind his beloved wife, 2 sons and 3 daughters.

Born to late Mr T Tualpum in Bungpilon Village in 1939.

Mr Phungzathang Tonsing was considered as the "PAITE NAMPA" (Father of Paite Tribe).

He was elected as an MLA for 6 terms. He left a wide void which is a big lost for the tribals of Manipur state.

1972 – Member, MDC (un-contested).

1977 – Chairman, Autonomous District Council, Churachandpur.

1980 – Elected to the 3rd Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket from Thanlon (ST) A/C.
- Minister, MOS, health & YAS (1982-84).

1985 – Re-elected to the 4th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket from Thanlon (ST) A/C.
- Minister, health, Publicity and Tourism Department (1985-90).

1990 – Re-elected to the 5th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket from Thanlon (ST) A/C
- Minister, PHED, Information & Publicity.

1995 – President, MPCC (1995-98).
- Chairman, PDA (1996-98)

2002 – Re-elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket from Churachandpur (ST) A/C.
- Minister, IFCD, Transport, TD & Hills.

2007 – re-elected to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket from Churachandpur (ST) A/C
- Minister, Power, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Science & Technology.

2012 – Re-elected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket from Churachandpur (ST) A/C.
- Minister, Health & Family Welfare, GAD and CADA.
