Two Mizo Artists received NEZCC Young Talented Artiste Award

Rivca Lalnunsangi of Zotlang and Jonathan VL Remruata of Khawzawl, have been selected from Mizoram to receive the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) Young Talented Artiste Award for 2022-2023. Both artists received the award in the Creative Arts (Painting) category.

The NEZCC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has been presenting the Young Talented Artiste Award since 2002 to promote and preserve the rich folk arts and material culture of the eight northeastern states. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, a citation, and covers travel and accommodation expenses.

The award is open to Indian citizens between the ages of 18 and 30, residing in any of the eight northeastern states. Eligible art forms include painting, sculpture, weaving, wood carving, folk dance, folk song, and folk music. Applications can be submitted through the Department of Art & Culture or individually, requiring recent photographs of the artist's work, a detailed bio-data, and a video showcasing their practice.

Seventeen artists from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura received the 2022-2023 Young Talented Artiste Award. Applications received in 2022-23 were reviewed in 2024, with the award ceremony held on April 8, 2025, at Shilpgram, NEZCC, Guwahati.
