Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong is a 2024 Indian Manipuri-language drama set against the lush backdrop of the Manipur valley. The film follows a young boy named Boong on a heartfelt quest to find his missing father—a surprise gift for his devoted single mother.
Celebrated for its emotional depth and cinematic purity, Boong has earned high praise from critics and Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who hailed it as "pure cinema." After its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024, the film garnered major accolades, including Best Feature Film at the International South Asian Film Festival (Canada) and Best Youth Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment, Boong began its theatrical run in India on September 19, 2025, in select PVR INOX cinemas—now proudly representing India in the Oscar 2025 race.
