IMPHAL, September 22, 2026: The Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has unanimously urged the state government to provide funding and financial assistance to Village Authorities in the recognised villages of the hill areas.
The resolution, Resolution No. 62/2026-(HAC), was adopted during the Committee’s meeting held on September 18, 2026.
According to the resolution, the HAC held a detailed discussion on the functioning and funding of Village Authorities. It noted that these authorities are constituted under the Manipur (Village Authorities in Hill Areas) Act, 1956, and function as local self-governments at the village level.
The Committee observed that Village Authorities should receive some form of assistance or grant from the Government or Finance Commission, in line with the financial support provided to Panchayati Raj Institutions.
The HAC therefore resolved to urge the Manipur Government to provide funding to Village Authorities to enable them to function properly.
The resolution was signed by HAC Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei on September 18, 2026, and circulated to concerned authorities, including the Governor, Chief Minister, Speaker, Minister of TA & Hills, Chief Secretary and officials of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
