Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs Voices Discontent Over Project Allocation, Calls for Union Territory

Lamka, September 12, 2025 — The Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs (KIYA) has expressed strong disappointment over the allocation of ₹7,300 crore development projects set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Churachandpur, Kuki-inhabited areas of Manipur.

In a press statement, the organization alleged that only a small portion of the funds would benefit Kuki areas, while the majority would go to Meitei communities. The statement described this as "not a neglect but pure insult," especially for the Kukis who have borne the brunt of the ongoing ethnic violence.

While extending a warm welcome to the Prime Minister, KIYA emphasized that his visit should help him understand the ground reality—claiming that Kukis and Meiteis can no longer coexist. The group reiterated its demand for Union Territory status as a matter of survival.

The statement also urged the Central Government to recognize this demand and take decisive action. Additionally, KIYA called on the District Administration in Churachandpur to enforce strict security measures during the Prime Minister’s visit. It insisted that buffer zones between Kuki and Meitei areas be respected, warning that no Meitei—whether civilian, police, or otherwise—should be allowed to enter Kuki areas under any circumstances.

The organization cautioned that any breach of these conditions would be seen as a provocation, for which the administration would be held responsible.
