JTC Condemns Arson Attack in K. Lungwiram Village

Tamenglong, Feb 10, 2026: The Joint Tribes Council (JTC), Manipur, has strongly condemned an alleged arson attack that took place in K. Lungwiram Naga Village under Saparmeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district.

In a condemnation statement issued on February 10, the JTC stated that the incident occurred around 11:55 pm on February 9, when about 30 unidentified persons from Sarongphai village allegedly set fire to the residence of Shri Azam Abonmai of K. Lungwiram village.

The JTC described the act as barbaric, premeditated, and a grave violation of law and order. It said such actions directly threaten peaceful coexistence and communal harmony in the region.

The council further claimed that reports suggesting the involvement of certain village chiefs in instigating the attack have made the matter more serious and called for an immediate, impartial investigation.

Expressing deep concern over the prevailing situation in K. Lungwiram village, the JTC said that innocent villagers are living in fear and insecurity, facing serious threats to their lives and property. It noted that the situation has created humanitarian concerns that require urgent attention.

The council appealed to the Government of Manipur and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to intervene immediately by deploying adequate neutral security forces, ensuring the safety of civilians, restoring normalcy, and providing necessary humanitarian relief.

Warning against delay, the JTC said any inaction would only embolden the perpetrators and further destabilise the region. It urged swift, decisive, and impartial action to uphold justice, restore peace, and reaffirm the rule of law.
