The Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation (JFD) has demanded that population head count under the Census be conducted only after identifying foreigners through the National Register of Citizens (NRC), stating that carrying out enumeration amid prevailing law and order challenges would not be just or fair.

The demand was raised during a public discussion on Census and Delimitation held on Friday at the auditorium of the Eastern Educational Club,Khurai Ahongei. The programme was jointly organised by JFD, Khurai Ahongei Thangjam Leikai Nupi Kanglup and Khurai Ahongei Meira Paibi.

Resource persons Sunil Karam and Kangjam Maharabi also participated in the discussion.

Speaking at the event, Jeetendra Ningombastated that under the supervision of the Ministryof Home Affairs, preparations are underway to conduct house-listing between April and September 2026 in two phases, followed bypopulation headcount on March 1, 2027.
