Moreh, 09 July 2026: The Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh, has strongly condemned the deadly ambush on a convoy of the 40 Assam Rifles at Shangshak in Ukhrul district on 6 July 2026, which claimed the lives of Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havaldar Chandra Mohon.
In a condemnation statement on July 7, the council described the attack by unidentified armed assailants as a grave and unacceptable act of violence. It noted that the Assam Rifles had been serving all communities in Manipur impartially and said attacks on India's armed forces should be condemned by everyone.
The HTC urged the Central Government and investigating agencies to carry out a thorough investigation, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice. It also expressed concern over the repeated attacks on Assam Rifles personnel, saying such incidents must be stopped permanently.
The council conveyed its profound grief over the loss of the two soldiers and extended its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the bereaved families.
