Two Arrested, Arms & 1,800 Kg Poppy Seeds Seized in Manipur

Imphal, April 10: In a series of operations, security forces on April 10, 2026 arrested two individuals and recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and suspected contraband from different parts of Manipur.

According to official reports, two persons identified as Letjakai Haokip (32) of Sarang Tampak, Chakpikarong in Chandel district (currently residing at Thingkangphai, Churachandpur) and Lunkhohao Haokip (40) of V. Tuisomjang village, Churachandpur, were arrested from T. Bangla MVCP under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district.

During the operation, security personnel seized one modified carbine, one 9 mm pistol, and 36 sacks suspected to contain poppy seeds weighing approximately 1,800 kilograms. Additionally, two DI vehicles bearing registration numbers NL01 AF-6831 and MZ01 AC-9716, along with two mobile handsets, were recovered from their possession.

In a separate operation on the same day, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and explosives from a forest area near Taijang village under Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district.

The recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, one MP-5 rifle with magazine, four country-made carbine guns with magazines, three country-made single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) guns, four Lathod guns, seven Pompi mortars, five Pompi shells, and suspected IED-making materials weighing about 4 kilograms.

Further, 26 rounds of ammunition of various calibres and five Baofeng walkie-talkie sets were also seized during the operation.

Security forces have intensified operations in the region to curb illegal activities and ensure peace and security.
