CoTU Denies Secret Meeting with Manipur CM

CLARIFICATION

It has come to the notice of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) that a false and misleading message is being circulated on social media by certain vested interests with the apparent intention of confusing the public and tarnishing the image of CoTU and its leadership.

In view of the misinformation being spread, CoTU wishes to clarify the following:

1). Regarding the Kuki Nation 8-Point Declaration

It is true that, in accordance with Point No. 8 of the Kuki Nation 8-Point Declaration, CoTU did not meet the Chief Minister of Manipur. This is not an attempt to bluff or mislead the public by Lamminlun Singsit but a factual position that CoTU has consistently upheld.

2). Regarding the allegation that CoTU secretly met the Chief Minister

The allegation is completely false and baseless. CoTU, under no circumstances, met the Chief Minister of Manipur. Individuals who met the Chief Minister did so in their personal capacity or as representatives of their respective organisations, and not on behalf of CoTU. CoTU neither authorised nor delegated anyone to represent it before the Chief Minister.

With regard to the submission of the memorandum, it is hereby clarified that CoTU submitted the memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, and not to the Chief Minister of Manipur. Copies of the memorandum were merely forwarded to the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister, and the State Security Advisor for information and necessary action. Neither Lamminlun Singsit nor anyone acting on behalf of CoTU submitted any memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur, contrary to the malicious and false claims being circulated.

3). Regarding the Message of Gratitude

The Message of Gratitude issued on CoTU letterhead was not intended to conceal or justify any alleged meeting with the Chief Minister. It was issued purely as an expression of solidarity and appreciation to the Kuki-Zo Christian Forum for its steadfast efforts in pressing the Government to deliver justice for the three murdered Church leaders and other innocent lives lost to the atrocities allegedly perpetrated by NSCN-IM and ZUF-K.

CoTU urges the public not to fall prey to fabricated narratives and malicious propaganda being circulated by vested interests. The organisation remains committed to transparency, accountability, and steadfast adherence to the collective resolutions of the Kuki-Zo people.

CoTU further issues a stern warning to those responsible for manufacturing and circulating such false and malicious propaganda. Deliberate attempts to mislead the public, sow distrust, and undermine the collective resolve of the Kuki-Zo people for narrow personal or political interests will not be tolerated. Those engaged in such disinformation campaigns are advised to cease their activities immediately.
