Lamka, July 4, 2026: The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) has strongly condemned the Government of India for facilitating Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's helicopter visit to Churachandpur on July 4, alleging that the visit was carried out without the free, prior and informed consent of the Kuki people. In a press release issued on Saturday, the council described the visit as a "deliberate provocation" rather than an act of peace, accusing the Centre of assisting the Chief Minister's entry into Kuki areas under armed protection.
The KHRC claimed that Kuki women had blocked the Chief Minister's convoy at Kaprang, forcing him to travel by helicopter. It said the incident reflected the Manipur government's lack of legitimacy and access in Kuki-majority areas. Reiterating its political position, the council stated that Kuki and Meitei communities cannot coexist under the present state structure and called for a Separate State or Union Territory until justice and security are ensured. The organisation also warned that any future attempts to enter Kuki areas without public consent would deepen mistrust and instability, urging dialogue based on respect, consultation, and recognition of Kuki political aspirations.
