A Kuki farmer was killed and his wife was injured after suspected Manipuri Naga militants belonging to ZUF-K reportedly opened fire on the couple while they were working on their farm in Govajang village, Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on 11 July.
According to local sources, the attack took place at around 2:00 pm while Mr. Haolal and his wife were farming. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, villagers believed that both had survived. However, when Mr. Haolal failed to return home, residents organised a search operation.
At around 7:00 pm, the villagers found Mr. Haolal's body in the farming area. Local sources alleged that the attackers were militants belonging to the ZUF-K group.
Following the incident, local groups stated that the killing brings the reported number of Kuki people killed by alleged Manipuri Naga militants to 15.
