The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) has strongly condemned the killing of an unarmed villager during an attack at Govajang Village in Kangpokpi district on 11 July 2026.
In a press condemnation issued from Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi, COTU alleged that Tangkhul-led armed militants of NSCN-IM and the ZUF Kamson group attacked the village at around 4:00 pm, killing Mr. Haokholal Singsit, who was working in a paddy field with his wife.
COTU said the incident occurred in an area under T. Vaichong Sub-Division, where security forces had recently conducted search operations to prevent such incidents. The committee questioned how the alleged militants were still able to operate despite the heightened security presence.
The organisation called on the state government to review its security preparedness and take stronger measures to prevent further attacks. It also urged the authorities to bring those responsible to justice at the earliest and ensure the safety of people living in the region.
