The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has strongly condemned the alleged midnight raid carried out by personnel of the CRPF's CoBRA unit on the residence of its Joint Secretary, Pu Douminlal Haokip, at Bongphajol in Kangpokpi district.
In a press statement issued on 13 July 2026, the KZC stated that the raid took place at around 2:30 a.m. on 12 July while Haokip was in Churachandpur attending a KZC and Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) meeting along with the KIM President.
According to the statement, security personnel reportedly entered and searched the residence without producing a search warrant.
The operation was allegedly conducted while the family was asleep, causing fear and trauma, particularly among the women and children.
The KZC described Haokip, who also serves as Secretary (Organisation) of the Kuki Inpi Manipur, as a respected civil society leader.
It argued that if authorities had legitimate grounds for a search, the operation should have been carried out in accordance with due legal process, with proper authorisation and in a dignified manner.
Condemning what it termed a "high-handed" action, the Council called on the concerned authorities to explain the legal basis of the operation and to initiate an impartial inquiry into the conduct of the personnel involved.
The KZC further urged security forces to conduct all operations within the framework of the law while respecting the rights and dignity of citizens.
It also expressed solidarity with Pu Douminlal Haokip and his family, calling for professionalism, restraint, and adherence to due process in future operations.
