At Least 23 Naga Lives Lost in Manipur Conflict Since 2023

FROM May 2023 to August 2026, at least 23 Naga people have been individually documented as killed in violence connected to the Manipur conflict.

These are not just numbers.

They were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, students, farmers, pastors, youth leaders, teachers and village defenders.

2023 — 1

1. Lucy Marem — Maring Naga — killed in a mob attack in Imphal East in July 2023. The CBI later chargesheeted nine accused in the case.

2024 — 4

2. Reileiwung Hongray — Tangkhul Naga — killed during the Hunphun–Hungpung clash, Ukhrul.

3. Silas Zingkhai — Tangkhul Naga — killed in the same Naga–Naga clash.

4. Worinmi Thumbra/Thumrah — Naga — 6th Manipur Rifles personnel, killed during the same violence.

5. Y.R. Pamzeijo Ramlung — Naga — died from injuries sustained in the same clash.

2025 — No clearly verified Naga civilian death added to this list.

2026 — 18

6. Chinaoshang Shokwungnao — Tangkhul Naga — killed in a road ambush.

7. Yaruingam Vashum — Tangkhul Naga — killed in the same ambush.

8. Horshokmi Jamang — Tangkhul Naga — Naga Village Guard, killed in an ambush.

9. Wilson Thanga — Chiru Naga — killed in a suspected militant ambush.

10. Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai — Liangmai Naga — abducted and later found dead.

11. Kenpibou Chawang — Liangmai Naga — abducted and later found dead.

12. Phenrongwibou Thiumai — Liangmai Naga — abducted and later found dead.

13. Phenrilungbou Chawang — Liangmai Naga — abducted and later found dead.

14. Dilip Thiumai — Liangmai Naga — abducted and later found dead.

15. Kaliwangbou Abonmai — Liangmai Naga — abducted and later found dead.

16. Chungjanglung Panmei — Rongmei Naga — shot dead in Kangpokpi.

17. Lanbimei Riamei — Naga — Naga Village Guard, killed during an armed confrontation involving security forces.

18. Wiriliangbou Chawang — Naga — killed in the Langka Naga attack.

19. Kawidinang Abonmai — Naga — killed in the same attack.

20. Tadsongbou Ringkangmai — Naga — killed in the 27 August IT Road ambush.

21. Mariakdibou Wijunamai — Naga — killed in the same ambush.

22. Japou MK — Naga — killed in the same ambush.

23. Anil Wijunamai — Naga — killed in the same ambush.

There is also a newly reported case involving Wisobou Charenamai, who was initially reported missing after the 27 August 2026 ambush and subsequently reported dead by one outlet. His death should be independently confirmed before adding him to the official count.
