Electoral Roll Observer Spearhead Review Meeting for Electoral Roll Revision

Kangpokpi, August 3, 2026 (DIO): Electoral Roll Observer Shri Mohan Lal Meena (RR 2001), Secretary (Lok Ayukta/Commission of Enquiry), Government of Manipur, visited Kangpokpi District today to review the progress of the Electoral Roll Revision and assess the preparedness of the district election machinery. He was accompanied by District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner Shri Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, along with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).

During the meeting, Shri Mohan Lal Meena briefed attendees on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, noting the Election Commission of India's framework and referencing constitutional provisions regarding independent electoral administration. He welcomed suggestions, complaints, and grievances from the political parties present. Representatives raised several key issues, including form submissions, challenges in acquiring necessary documents for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are unable to travel, and requirements concerning parental certificates. The Observer directed the Deputy Commissioner to examine these matters closely. All concerns raised by officials, staff, and political parties were duly noted and will be forwarded to the higher authorities for appropriate action.

Additionally, the Electoral Roll Observer emphasized the importance of effective coordination between Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs). He stressed that EROs must execute their entrusted responsibilities with the utmost diligence and ensure thoroughness throughout the revision process. Highlighting the critical role of public awareness, the Observer encouraged officials to fully engage with and enrich the entire procedure.

Furthermore, it was noted that the period for filing claims and objections runs from 05.07.2026 to 04.08.2026, the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will take place from 05.07.2026 to 02.09.2026, and the final electoral roll will be published on 06.09.2026.

The meeting was attended by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of the district; political parties functioning within the district, Election staffs among others.
