Government Officials Begin Returning to Khampat

August 7, 2026: After the Myanmar military regained control of Khampat town on 20 July, Myanmar's civilian government officials have begun returning to the town to resume civil administration.

A total of 35 government employees arrived in Khampat from Tamu using 17 vehicles. They were deployed to reopen various government offices and to facilitate the early reopening of schools and hospitals. Before their departure, the officials were provided with essential food and household supplies, and they also received one month's salary in advance.

Residents of Khampat who had fled the fighting are now allowed to return if they wish, and many have already started returning. Likewise, people on the Indian side are also permitted to return, although they are required to present a valid ID card.
