ITAC Urges Fair SIR Process, Warns Over Tribal Area Safety

Pherzawl, Aug. 3, 2026: The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), Pherzawl and Jiribam Districts, has called on the authorities to ensure that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is conducted in a fair, transparent, and impartial manner, particularly in tribal-inhabited areas of Jiribam district, Manipur.

In a press release issued on Monday, ITAC said that the conflict between the Meitei community and the non-Naga tribal communities—Kuki, Zomi and Hmar—has remained unresolved since 3 May 2023. It stated that despite repeated government interventions, no lasting political solution has been reached, leaving the affected communities in a state of uncertainty.

The committee urged the Government and concerned officials to prevent any form of discrimination or bias during the SIR exercise and to safeguard the rights and interests of tribal communities throughout the process.

ITAC further stated that, under the prevailing security situation, unrestricted movement across each other's areas continues to pose serious risks. It maintained that peaceful coexistence remains difficult until a solution acceptable to the tribal communities of Jiribam and Pherzawl is achieved.

The committee also said it cannot be held responsible for any untoward incidents arising from individuals entering tribal areas despite the current circumstances. It appealed to all concerned to act responsibly, exercise restraint, and work towards a just, peaceful, and sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict.
