Kangpokpi NCORD Meeting Reviews Anti-Drug Measures

Kangpokpi, August 21, 2026 (DIO): The District Administration of Kangpokpi convened a review meeting of the Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) to assess ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, illegal poppy cultivation and substance abuse in the district.

The meeting was chaired by District Collector and NCORD Chairperson Hemant Kumar, IAS, with Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, and senior officials from the police, Central forces and other departments participating.

A key focus of the meeting was strengthening coordination among agencies to curb the inflow of illicit substances and address the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Officials were asked to create area-specific WhatsApp groups involving the District Police, Central forces and Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) to facilitate faster communication and real-time responses.

The Chairperson stressed the need to intensify efforts against illegal poppy cultivation ahead of the harvesting season. Concerned SDOs, Officer-in-Charges (OCs) and Central forces were directed to identify and map areas where illegal cultivation is taking place and take measures to prevent harvesting.

The administration also decided to issue a warning circular to Village Chiefs and Village Councils, making it clear that they would be held directly responsible for illicit cultivation carried out on land under their jurisdiction.

Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta, IPS, provided security-related inputs and briefed the meeting on National Crime Bureau (NCB) schemes that provide financial support for alternative farming. SDOs were directed to work with OCs to identify villagers willing to shift to alternative livelihoods and submit their details for consideration under NCB-funded programmes.

The Chairperson further directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide details of pharmaceutical shops in the district and take action against unlicensed outlets. Strict enforcement of mandatory CCTV installation at pharmaceutical shops was also ordered.

Officials from the SDOs, CMO, BSF and CRPF raised various operational requirements during the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner assured them that the issues raised would be examined and addressed.

The meeting also discussed the movement of large consignments of urea into the district. The SP and concerned officials were asked to inspect such consignments, while Agriculture Department officials were directed to submit detailed reports on the total quantity of urea supplied to the district.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on coordinated action among departments and security agencies to strengthen the district’s efforts against drug-related activities and illegal cultivation.
