KHRC Condemns N. Teikhang Massacre, Seeks Ceasefire End

Lamka, August 31, 2026: The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) has strongly condemned the August 31 attack in N. Teikhang village, alleging that cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF killed three Kuki civilians, including two women, and injured four others.

In a press statement issued on August 31, the KHRC described the killings of Tingleichin Lhouvum and Hoineng Lhoujem as an “ISIS-style” act of terrorism and alleged that the attackers burned homes, shot unarmed women and children inside their houses and forced children to flee into the forest. The council said such violence was an attack on women and reflected what it called the perpetrators’ “moral bankruptcy.”

The KHRC said the incident was not isolated, alleging that it formed part of a longer pattern of violence against Kuki civilians by the NSCN-IM since 1990. According to the council, more than 1,100 Kuki civilians have been killed, including infants and pregnant women, while hundreds of villages have been burned and thousands of people displaced.

The council further alleged that the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM is being misused as a “license to kill” and called on the Government of India to recognise the situation. It said there could be no ceasefire with a group that, in its view, targets civilians and women and has allegedly tortured and beheaded Kuki civilians.

The KHRC demanded that the Government of India immediately abrogate the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM, arrest all cadres allegedly involved in the killings and prosecute them under applicable laws for murder and terrorism.

It also called for adequate compensation, immediate relief and a separate administration for the Kuki community to safeguard its lives, land and culture.

The council extended condolences to the bereaved families of Lamthinang Lhoujem, Tingleichin Lhouvum and Hoineng Lhoujem, saying their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
