Senapati, August 31, 2026: The United Naga Council (UNC) has directed village authorities and affiliated organisations to ensure that no cooperation is extended to government officials undertaking the Census exercise scheduled to commence from September 1, 2026.

In an “Urgent Directive” issued by UNC president Ng. Lorho 31 on August 2026, UNC president Ng. Lorho asked all Tribe Presidents, Presidents of the CNPO and NPO, and the Convenor of the JTC to ensure that villagers do not cooperate with officials detailed for the Census exercise.
The directive was issued in continuation of the UNC’s public statement of August 18, titled “NRC First: No Census, No Delimitation Before Implementation of NRC in Manipur.”
The UNC instructed the concerned organisations to issue clear directions to villages and the public and to conduct strict monitoring to ensure compliance throughout the scheduled Census period.
The directive comes amid the council’s demand that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) be implemented in Manipur before the Census and delimitation exercises.
