KSO condemns alleged NSCN-IM attack at Kailenjang

Kangpokpi, August 10, 2026: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, has strongly condemned the alleged burning of civilian houses at Kailenjang Village by suspected cadres of the NSCN-IM at around 1.30 pm on Monday.

In a press statement issued on August 10, the KSO described the incident as a “barbaric act” and alleged that the attackers were armed with fully automatic weapons. The organisation said the incident was particularly shocking as it reportedly took place just five kilometres from Senapati headquarters, where the Government of Manipur, led by Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, was engaged in peace talks with leaders of the United Naga Council (UNC).

According to the KSO, the incident appeared to be a direct attempt to sabotage the peace process and spread fear among innocent villagers. The organisation said the people of Kangpokpi District had always stood for peace and had exercised maximum restraint by abstaining from retaliation despite what it described as several provocative incidents.

The KSO also reminded Naga groups that several Naga villages are located within Kangpokpi District. It said that despite this, the people of the district had allowed them to live peacefully and without fear, stressing that “peace has been our choice, not compulsion.”

However, the organisation warned that if acts of arson and intimidation continued, the people of Kangpokpi District could be compelled to take “decisive action” to safeguard their villages and people.

The KSO urged law-enforcement agencies to immediately apprehend those responsible for the alleged attack and book them under the law. It further warned that failure to take action could lead it to conclude that law-enforcement agencies and what it described as the “terrorist group” were jointly responsible for the prevailing unrest in Manipur.

The KSO Sadar Hills reiterated that it had always stood for peace, justice and the protection of its people, according to the statement issued by its Department of Information and Publicity.
