Kuki CSO Ukhrul Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Government

UKHRUL, Aug. 3, 2026: The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs)-Ukhrul has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Government, demanding immediate action to end what it describes as a "selective economic blockade" affecting the Kuki-Zo people in Ukhrul.

In a clarification issued on Sunday (Aug 2), the organisation stated that its ongoing counter economic blockade is entirely separate from the United Naga Council's (UNC) blockade on NH-02. It said its agitation is a response to the alleged obstruction of essential commodities by certain Tangkhul and Meitei groups at Seijang, Yaingangpokpi, Wunghon, and Sokvao along NH-202.

The WCKCSOs said the UNC's blockade seeks justice for the six slain Zeliangrong men, while its own agitation is focused on ensuring equal dignity, survival, and access to essential goods for the Kuki-Zo community.

The organisation urged the Government not to link its protest with the UNC blockade or ongoing peace talks, describing the issue as a humanitarian concern requiring immediate and independent intervention.

According to the statement, the 48-hour ultimatum will remain in force from 12:00 AM on August 3 until 12:00 AM on August 5, 2026. It warned that if the Government fails to end the alleged selective blockade within the stipulated period, a total shutdown will be enforced from 12:00 AM on August 5, 2026.

The WCKCSOs further stated that the Government must act without delay to restore the movement of essential commodities, warning that continued inaction would make it responsible for any consequences arising from the situation.
