Lamka, August 9, 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has categorically stated that it was neither a party to nor involved in the visit of Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh to Kangpokpi on August 8.
In a public statement issued by Mr. D. David Haokip, Assistant Secretary of Information and Publicity, Kuki Inpi Manipur, on Sunday, the organisation said the Chief Minister’s visit was undertaken at the invitation of certain district-level Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Kangpokpi and not at the invitation, direction, authorisation or mandate of the KIM.
KIM strongly objected to the engagement, particularly in the context of the Kuki people’s movement for Separate Administration.
The organisation clarified that the actions of the concerned district CSOs should not be construed as representing the collective position, consent or mandate of the KIM or the Kuki people. It said it would not compromise, dilute or barter away the political aspirations and collective interests of the Kuki people for temporary engagements, personal interests or political expediency.
KIM further categorically rejected the Chief Minister’s visit and the engagements undertaken during it, reiterating its commitment to upholding the political aspirations and collective mandate of the Kuki people.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur also urged the Kuki public to remain clear, vigilant and united on the matter, asserting that the political aspirations of the Kuki people cannot be undermined through isolated engagements or unilateral actions.
