Kuki Village Urges Review of Peace Talks After Militant Attack

M. WAKOTPHAI, India, August 27, 2026 — The M. Wakotphai Village Authority condemned an unprovoked attack on innocent local farmers, alleging it was carried out at around 9:20 a.m. by the Tangkhul-led NSCN-IM.

In an official statement signed by Village Chief Thangjalam Hangshing and Secretary Lamsat Chongloi, the leadership called on the Government of India to deploy adequate armed security forces in and around M. Wakotphai village to protect civilians.

The authority further urged the Central Government to review its ongoing peace talks with the NSCN-IM, alleging that the group is using the peace process with impunity to commit acts of violence against innocent citizens.

The release also questioned why NSCN-IM cadres are permitted to operate freely in Manipur, referencing a historic declaration by the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that the ceasefire does not extend to Manipur state territory. The leaders demanded strict and appropriate action from both Central and State authorities against those involved in the attack.
