KOHIMA — Three houses were completely gutted and another partially damaged after a fire broke out at Longzang Village in Mon district on 18 August 2026, at around 4:22 p.m. No injuries, casualties or livestock deaths were reported.
According to Lohwang, Chief Angh of Longzang Village, there is no fire brigade stationed nearby. The nearest fire service is located in Mon Town, around 43 kilometres away, making it difficult for firefighters to reach the village quickly during emergencies.
Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Lohwang said the cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained and there is currently no lead on how it started.
The fire broke out while many families were away attending a Job Card photograph session being held within the village, around half a kilometre from the affected houses. Women and children who remained at home noticed the fire and raised the alarm.
According to a report prepared by the Longzang Village Council, the three houses completely gutted belonged to Aichuh, L. Anam and Achuh. The families lost household belongings, clothes, kitchen utensils and personal documents in the blaze.
