NIA Conducts Searches in Chennai, Aizawl and Champhai

Aizawl, August 14, 2026: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday conducted searches at 13 locations in Chennai and Mizoram as part of its investigation into a major interstate and international methamphetamine trafficking network.

The searches covered eight locations in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and five locations in Mizoram, including Aizawl and Champhai. During the operations, the agency recovered substantial amounts of cash in Indian and foreign currencies, along with various digital devices.

From the eight locations searched in Chennai, the NIA recovered more than Rs 71 lakh in cash, along with US$53,500, Myanmar Kyat 1.5 lakh and several digital devices.

In Mizoram, searches at various locations in Champhai led to the recovery of Rs 22.38 lakh, while searches in Aizawl resulted in the recovery of another Rs 20.73 lakh.

The NIA is conducting the searches to establish links between an international drug syndicate and drug traffickers, while also tracing the financial trail associated with the illegal drug trade.

The agency is investigating the wider network involved in the trafficking of methamphetamine and aims to identify the individuals and financial channels connected with the syndicate.
