Opposition MPs staged a protest within the Parliament premises in New Delhi on Monday. Key leaders present included Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary (Org) KC Venugopal, and AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The demonstrators demanded an official statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding police action against student protesters at Jantar Mantar and the alleged theft of Ram temple donations. Owing to the unrest, Lok Sabha proceedings were temporarily adjourned until 12 PM by MP NK Premachandran, who was in the Chair. Despite the disruptions, the House is scheduled to introduce key legislation, including the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, and the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026.

LEADER of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today posed a direct question to the Union Home Minister, asking him whether he had ordered the firing on the students at Jantar Mantar or not. “Did you, Mr Amit Shah, shoot our children or not? And if you did, why?”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated that the party’s three demands - discussion on police brutality against students, Ram temple donation theft and PM’s apology - are non-negotiable.
In a special briefing along with Kharge here today, Gandhi asserted that the question was never that Amit Shah will come and speak on some general topic in Parliament. “Amit Shah has to make it clear who authorised the shooting of our youngsters in Delhi”, he remarked, adding, “The question was Amit Shah should come clean- did he order it or not? If he ordered it, he is guilty; if he didn’t know about it, he is incompetent. Either way, he should go”.
Reiterating his party’s demand that Shah speak specifically on the police brutalities on students, he said, “our demand is not that Amit Shah speak on a general issue. Nobody is interested in his fantasy conversations, neither we nor the country”.
Taking on both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shah, he said, this reflects their character that for 15 days, neither of them had the courage to come to the House. “Neither of them has the guts to own up to what they have done”, he noted.
Asserting that Shah’s balloon has burst, he said, “He (Shah) does not have the guts and courage to stand in front of us in the Parliament”.
Replying to a question on the student protests in Jharkhand, Gandhi said, “Our message is the same and clear for Jharkhand. We condemn it. We don’t recommend it. We don’t support it. As long as the protest is peaceful, we are against attacking it with violence”.
Kharge said that from day one, the Opposition demands had remained the same: that there should be a discussion on the atrocities against students, on Ram Temple donation theft and the Prime Minister’s apology. He said that for 15 days, the government did nothing. Referring to the theft at the Ram Temple, he said, Modi’s ‘trusted trustees’ committed the donation theft and he has not bothered to speak about it. He demanded that Modi should apologise to the country for betrayal of faith and the atrocities on students.”
