Kangpokpi, August 31, 2026: The Chief of T. Waichong village, L. Kipgen, has strongly denied reports that residents or village authorities obstructed a CRPF convoy deployed to retrieve the mortal remains of four Liangmai youths on August 27.
In a press clarification issued on August 29, Kipgen described the reports as “false” and “fabricated”, stating that the convoy was not blocked, hindered or interfered with at any point by residents or the village authority.
He said the ground situation could be corroborated by the Commanding Officer of the 112 Battalion CRPF and the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi, who were reportedly present on the ground and accompanied the convoy throughout its movement.
Kipgen expressed concern over what he described as the circulation of unverified and sensational claims at a sensitive time.
He also urged civil society organisations, particularly those functioning under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC), to exercise restraint and verify information through ground-level channels before issuing statements.
According to the village chief, spreading unverified claims could create unnecessary friction and deepen mistrust between neighbouring communities.
He further appealed to media organisations to adhere to journalistic standards, verify claims with officials on the ground and retract uncorroborated reports to prevent tensions from escalating.
