Two CRPF Personnel Injured in Separate Drug Operations

IMPHAL, August 15, 2026: Two CRPF personnel were injured in a gun attack while attempting to arrest a suspected drug smuggler at Khergao Awang Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district on Friday, August 14.

According to reports, a joint team of CRPF personnel and Imphal West District Commandos went to the area in the early hours of Friday to arrest a suspected drug smuggler, identified as Md. Amir Khan, in connection with a drug-related case. Gunfire reportedly broke out as security personnel attempted to apprehend him at his residence.

One CRPF personnel sustained a bullet injury to the neck, while the driver of the CRPF vehicle was also injured. Both were taken to RIMS Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, gunfire also erupted the same day during a drug operation at Chaudharykhal village under Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam district.

According to police sources, a joint team of police and CRPF personnel launched an operation after receiving information about suspected drug-related activities. Unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at the security team, prompting retaliation before the attackers fled.

An AK-56 rifle and several rounds of ammunition were reportedly recovered from the site, while several persons suspected of involvement were detained for questioning.
