Kuki Inpi Condemns Saitu, Saikul MLAs’ Imphal Move

Lamka, September 3, 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has condemned the decision of the MLAs representing the Saitu and Saikul Assembly constituencies to travel to Imphal and attend the ongoing Assembly session, despite its directive asking Kuki-Zo MLAs not to participate.

In a press statement issued by D. David Haokip, Assistant Information Secretary of the Kuki Inpi Manipur on September 3, KIM said the two legislators had disregarded the sentiments and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people, particularly at a time when the community was pursuing its political demand for Separate Administration.

The KIM said the MLAs who chose to travel to Imphal must answer to the Kuki-Zo public for their decision and bear responsibility for the “anguish, tears, and cries” of families who have lost their sons and daughters in the conflict.

At the same time, the KIM appreciated Kuki-Zo MLAs who respected its directive and refrained from travelling to Imphal to attend the Assembly session. It said their decision reflected respect for the sentiments and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people at what it described as a critical juncture.

The apex body reiterated that the demand for Separate Administration represents the collective political aspiration of the Kuki-Zo people. It said elected representatives were expected to respect and uphold the sentiments, aspirations and collective position of the people they represent.

The KIM urged all Kuki-Zo public representatives to remain mindful of the larger cause and act in accordance with the collective aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people.
