Kuki Village Volunteers Twilang Warns Against Further Attacks on IT Road

Kanggui, September 2, 2026: The Kuki Village Volunteers, Twilang Lhang (KVV) has condemned what it described as continued attacks and provocation against civilian villages along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, warning that further attacks will not be tolerated.

In a press release issued on September 1, the group said that at around 4.50 am on Monday, a group allegedly comprising NSCN-IM and ZUF(K), with the reported assistance of Liangmei Village Guards, opened fire from the direction of Tapon village and Chawangkining.

According to the statement, the firing caused panic and fear among villagers. It said KVV volunteers were compelled to respond in order to protect civilians and villages under their responsibility from what it described as threats posed by the alleged combined militant elements.

The KVV said it had already issued a clear warning that it would not remain a “silent spectator” to repeated attacks, intimidation or threats against civilian villages.

The group linked the latest incident to the reported attack on N. Teikhang village at around 8.45 am on August 31. It alleged that attackers set fire to the village, killing two women and critically injuring three others.

The KVV said that despite the gravity of the August 31 incident, further acts of provocation reportedly continued into Monday morning, leaving its volunteers with no option but to respond in line with their stated commitment to protect vulnerable civilians and villages.

The group warned that any further attack, intimidation or deliberate provocation against civilian villages would not be tolerated and said those responsible should understand that their actions would have consequences.

KVV, Twilang Lhang also appealed to the public and concerned authorities to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further violence, protect vulnerable civilians and restore security and normalcy in the area.

The group reiterated its commitment to protecting civilians and said it would not remain silent in the face of continued attacks and provocation.
