MU Opens Hindi Pakhwada 2026 with Workshop on AI and Hindi

Imphal, September 4, 2026: The Official Language Cell, Manipur University, inaugurated Hindi Pakhwada 2026 on September 3 with a one-day Hindi workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Hindi,” aimed at promoting the use of Hindi in everyday official work through modern technology, at the Committee Room, VC Secretariat, Manipur University.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor in-charge and Chairman of the University’s Official Language Implementation Committee, encouraged employees to make Hindi a natural part of their daily office work. He urged them to look beyond its use as an official obligation and contribute to its wider adoption with the support of modern technology. He also extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of Hindi Pakhwada 2026.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Binita Akoijam, Assistant Director, Official Langauge Cell, explained that the workshop sought to provide practical support to employees who face difficulties in carrying out official work in Hindi. She said artificial intelligence could help employees overcome some of these difficulties and strengthen their ability to use Hindi in the workplace.

Dr. Binita emphasised that the Cell’s role included equipping employees with the knowledge and skills needed for Hindi noting and drafting. She called for collective participation across University offices, stressing that the use of Hindi required the involvement of staff beyond the Official Language Cell.

She also outlined plans for competitions under Hindi Pakhwada, with activities arranged to minimise disruption to regular University work. Referring to employees who had yet to receive Hindi training, she said efforts would be made to facilitate training opportunities, including online training where necessary. 

During the technical session, Dr. Tilokchand Irengbam, Programmer, Manipur University, conducted a workshop on “AI and Hindi” as the resource person. During the workshop, he highlighted the various AI platforms, such as Bhashini, Kanthasth, Gyan Bharatam, and Adi Vaani. These AI projects were collaborative effort between the department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India.

Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar, attended the programme along with Prof Laishram Rajendra Singh, Finance Officer; Anisul Alam, Assistant Registrar (Senior Scale); Dr. Memori Sagolsem, Librarian (i/c); and Dr. Sakila Nongmeikapam, Public Relations Officer; other University officials, members of the Official Language Implementation Committee, teachers and staff.

As part of the Hindi Fortnight 2026, various competitions like recitation, extempore speech, dictation, handwriting and Hindi efficiency test were held after the completion of the workshop

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, resource person, participating officials, teachers, employees and the Official Language Cell team.
