IMPHAL, September 2, 2026: According to Naga sources, 23 houses, a church granary, a church building and several vehicles and heavy machinery were allegedly burned or destroyed by unknown militants in New Tapon and Old Tapon on September 1, 2026.
The sources said 13 houses were burned in New Tapon, belonging to Pouriangwi Newmai, Kalingpou Panmei, Jonah Chawang, Liangribou Newmai, Hulinbou Newmai, Dinpi Marenmai, Mathiusongdinang Thiumai, Maithonlungbou Thiumai, Ronwangbou Newmai, Attabou Abonmai, Deepakbou Newmai and Sangjiubou Newmai. A church granary was also reportedly destroyed.
In Old Tapon, the sources reported that nine houses and a church building were burned. The affected houses were identified as belonging to Karangambou, Robinson, Tadin, Chaliulang, Hukaising, Huriangbou, Pechunliu, Kabailungbou and Rightson.
The reported losses in Old Tapon also include one JCB, one Shaktiman vehicle and one Tata truck.
According to the sources, these figures represent the reported losses suffered by the Liangmei-Naga community, covering residential buildings, a church facility and private and commercial properties.
