UMPC Manipur Welcomes Waqf Board Members' Resignation

Imphal, September 8, 2026: The United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur has welcomed and appreciated the Government of Manipur's order dated 8 September 2026, accepting the resignation of two non-Muslim members from the 8th Waqf Board, Manipur, with immediate effect.

In a press communique issued by Alhaj Moulana Muheiyuddin Mazahiri, President, United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur on the same day, UMPC Manipur sincerely thanked Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and Waqf Board Chairman Y. Antas Khan (Ex-MLA) for their assurance and commitment in addressing the concerns and sentiments of the Muslim community.

The committee described the development as significant, reflecting the importance of constructive dialogue, democratic representation and respect for stakeholders' sentiments. It placed on record its appreciation for the authorities' positive response and expressed hope that remaining issues concerning the Waqf Board would similarly be resolved through fairness, consultation and mutual respect.

UMPC Manipur also extended special appreciation to all Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), particularly CCPWPM and its constituent and stakeholder bodies, for their collective efforts and united stand on the matter.

According to the government order, the two members had submitted their withdrawal/resignation letters, and the Governor of Manipur accepted their resignation from the 8th Waqf Board with immediate effect.

UMPC Manipur said the development marks a step toward strengthening trust, harmony and inclusive governance, and reaffirmed its commitment to working for the welfare, dignity and legitimate interests of the community.
