Public Voluntarily Surrender Weapons Across Manipur

Imphal, 3rd March 2025: In a significant development, a total of 33 weapons of various types, along with a substantial cache of ammunition and other items, were voluntarily surrendered by the public at different locations across Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur districts of Manipur.

Churachandpur District
At Churachandpur Police Station, surrendered items included:

  • Two double-barrelled shotguns (Made in India)

  • One .303 rifle with a magazine

  • One 7.62mm SLR rifle with a magazine

  • One M4A4 Carbine (U.S. Government property) with a magazine

  • A locally-made stand gun with a magazine

  • Various other firearms, live rounds, walkie-talkies, and grenades

Thoubal District
At the 3rd IRB in Khangabok and SP Thoubal, surrendered items comprised:

  • A 9mm pistol (Made in Italy) with a magazine

  • A locally-made .32 pistol with a magazine

  • A double-barrel shotgun (Santokho Gun Works)

  • Three hand grenades and a live drone bomb

  • A tube launcher, riot shield, body armour plates, camouflage clothing, and other military equipment

Imphal East District
At Heingang Police Station, Porompat Police Station, and Yaingangpokpi Police Station, notable surrendered items included:

  • A 9mm pistol with a magazine

  • An 81mm mortar bomb

  • An SLR rifle with a magazine

  • Stun grenades, smoke grenades, and several rounds of ammunition

Imphal West District
At Lamphel Police Station, the surrendered weapons included:

  • Two .303 rifles with magazines

  • Two locally-made .32 pistols with magazines

  • A hand grenade and ammunition

  • Five tube-launching devices

Bishnupur District
At Nambol Police Station, the surrendered items featured:

  • Two single-barrel shotguns and three double-barrel shotguns

  • Thirty cartridges and 50 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition

  • Body armour, helmets, walkie-talkies, camouflage clothing, and other tactical gear

Authorities have welcomed this voluntary surrender of arms, viewing it as a positive step towards peace and security in the region. The police have assured that all surrendered weapons and explosives will be securely disposed of as per protocol. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origins of the surrendered items.
