KUKI students have finally stepped forward, announcing meetings across different areas. But what is this movement really about—is it a call for awareness, a civil initiative, or a genuine fight for change? Are we challenging the government, our own authoritarian leaders, or the militants who control our community?
At present, the term "People's Movement" feels more like a performance, a seminar possibly pushed by someone for their own interests. True people's movements are driven by the people themselves, like the Civil Rights Movement in the USA or the Anti-Apartheid struggle in South Africa—movements where ordinary citizens rose to demand justice and real change. In contrast, performative or fake movements often give the illusion of popular support but serve hidden agendas, distracting from the real issues and consolidating the power of elites.
The core challenge for the Kuki community lies within our own ranks— the SOO groups, dictatorial chiefs, and anti-democratic cultural practices that hold us back. Genuine progress will come only when we confront these internal struggles and take ownership of our own destiny.
