On November 13, it has been reported that four refugees from Paletwa Township in the southern part of Chin State, who are taking shelter in a refugee camp in Lawngtlai District, Mizoram, have died due to diarrhoea.
According to locals and refugees in Kakichhuah village of Lawngtlai District, an outbreak of diarrhoea began around early November, causing the deaths of two local residents and two refugees.
Because of the diarrhoea outbreak in Kakichhuah village, a 75-year-old man named Pu Lawmla died on November 4. Later, on November 9, two others passed away — a woman around 24 named Pi Neda and a 48-year-old man named Pu Kailaw. On November 11, a 28-year-old man named Sawla also died, according to local reports.
At present, around 20 people in Kakichhuah village are still unwell, and it is learned that medical workers from Lawngtlai town are providing assistance for this illness.
Kakichhuah village has around 130 households and lies close to the India–Myanmar border. There are also nearly 500 refugees from Paletwa Township currently living in the area.
