Zomi FC created history as they reached their first final of Hmar Martyrs' Trophy as second-half goal by Muankhanlian Tunglut secured them a 1-0 victory against hosts Saikawt YC in yesterday's crunch semi-final battle of the ongoing 19th Hmar Martyrs' Trophy 2026 played in front of a strong crowd at Saikawt Playground, Churachandpur.
After a breathtaking but goalless first-half, Muankhanlian Tunglut opened the deadlock in the 50th minute with a powerful header connecting a perfect cross from Pausonthang after midfielder Henry Thanglalmuan fed the winger down the right flank.
Saikawt YC put utmost effort to claw back into the game but they were unable to penetrate through the defensive wall of Zomi FC and the 1-0 scoreline remained intact until fulltime as Zomi FC earned their first Hmar Martyrs' Trophy final.
In today's second semi-final match, star-studded side Khokon United will be taking on surprise-package Immortal Sophia with eyes set for a 16th May final with Zomi FC.
Khokon United were among those considered favourites before the start of the tournament. As expected, they had a stellar group-stage campaign as they emerged pool champions. However, after group-stage, they required a back-to-back 1-0 win that put them through to the semi-final as they claimed 1-0 wins against Tuiring YC and PLL Academy in the knock-out round and the quarter-final respectively. Meanwhile, Immortal Sophia had a fairly-tale campaign as they marched through to the semi-final. After an impressive group-stage, they went on to trigger an upset against UKB in the knock-out round on penalties and in the quarter-final, they clinched another headline-grabbing 2-0 win against Dynamic FA. So, after two statement wins in a row, they will be in high mood to claim another big win when they face Khokon United today.
The winners of today's second semi-final face Zomi FC in the final on 16th May, 2026 (Saturday).
