Jan Aushadhi Kendras Opened at Jiribam District Hospital

Jiribam, May 26: In a major push to strengthen affordable and digital healthcare services in Jiribam district, Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, Shri Krishna Kumar, on Tuesday inaugurated two Jan Aushadhi Kendras under the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) at the OPD and Casualty Ward of District Hospital Jiribam, Ningshingkhul.

An ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ID generation camp for outpatients was also launched during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said the Jan Aushadhi Kendras aim to provide quality generic medicines and surgical items at highly affordable rates, often 50 to 90 per cent cheaper than branded medicines. He noted that the initiative would help ensure access to affordable healthcare while maintaining safety, quality and efficacy standards through medicines approved by NABL laboratories.

Krishna Kumar further stated that the Kendras would particularly benefit patients suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer by reducing the financial burden of long-term treatment.

Awareness was also created on the significance of the ABHA ID under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

ABHA is a unique 14-digit digital health ID that enables citizens to securely store, access and share their medical records digitally across healthcare facilities in the country. The system allows patients to maintain prescriptions, laboratory reports, discharge summaries, vaccination records and medical history in digital format.

Officials informed that the ABHA system would simplify hospital registration, reduce paperwork and waiting time, and facilitate telemedicine and online consultations. With patients’ consent, healthcare providers can also access previous medical records for quicker and more effective treatment.

The initiative is expected to benefit people in rural and remote areas by improving access to digital healthcare services and supporting the vision of connected healthcare systems under Digital India.

Citizens can generate ABHA IDs free of cost using Aadhaar cards, driving licences or mobile numbers through government health portals, hospitals and healthcare applications.

The programme was attended by Shri L. Tarajeet Singh, MCS, SDO Jiribam; Elangbam Amuthoi Khanganba, MCS, Assistant Commissioner to DC Jiribam; Abujam Romen Singh, MCS, SDO/BDO Borobekra, along with health officials and staff members of CHC Jiribam.
