Manipur Police recovered 49 packets of suspected opium, weighing approximately 49.500 kilograms, from an abandoned vehicle in Senapati district on 12 July 2026.
According to police, the suspected contraband was found inside a Hyundai Creta (Registration No. NL-07CE-0841), which was abandoned near Hengbung Baptist Church along National Highway-2 (NH-2).
The vehicle had reportedly sped away from the T. Khullen naka check point under Senapati Police Station before being abandoned.
During the search, police also recovered documents belonging to Z. Reithingam (52), a resident of Kamphasom, Ukhrul district, from inside the vehicle.
Police have launched a further investigation to identify those involved and determine the source and destination of the suspected opium.
