Devastating Floods in Assam: Heartbreak for Millions

TORRENTIAL monsoon rains have once again submerged vast stretches of Assam, bringing immense heartbreak and severe disruption to thousands of vulnerable families across the region. Tragically, over 60 lives have been lost, whilst more than 10 lakh (1 million) people have been affected, with thousands forced out of their inundated homes into temporary relief shelters. The rising waters have swept away vital livelihoods, drowning over 37,000 hectares of cropland and severely damaging thousands of houses, roads, and bridges. With estimated financial and infrastructural losses running into thousands of crores of rupees (hundreds of millions of pounds), the path to rebuilding lives will be long and arduous for these resilient communities.
