JTCM Lifts Shutdown, Retains Economic Blockade

Tamenglong, July 30, 2026: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council, Manipur (WC-JTCM) has announced the immediate lifting of the total emergency shutdown that was imposed on 29 July 2026 following the killing of a Naga Village Guard at Bitiang (Laphok) village in Noney district, Manipur.

In a public notification issued on Thursday, the committee stated that while the shutdown has been withdrawn, the economic blockade enforced by the United Naga Council (UNC) will continue across the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme areas until further notice.

The WC-JTCM expressed dissatisfaction over what it described as the continued failure of the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to deliver justice for the six victims. It warned that if no meaningful investigation is initiated and those responsible are not brought to justice, the ongoing economic blockade could be intensified and a total shutdown reimposed.

The committee also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the shutdown and thanked the Area Coordination Committees for their support. It reiterated its demand for an impartial investigation, prosecution of all those responsible, and fair compensation for the bereaved families, stating that justice for the victims remains non-negotiable.
