Kuki CSOs Impose Counter Economic Blockade Along NH-202

UKHRUL — The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs)-Ukhrul, in coordination with Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations of Ukhrul and Kangpokpi, announced a counter economic blockade on National Highway-202 starting midnight on July 26, 2026. The decision was made during a consultation meeting on July 26 following alleged prolonged blockades and disruption of essential commodities to Kuki-Zo populations in Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Kangpokpi.

According to the press release, the blockade will remain active until the government guarantees the free movement of essential goods. Exemptions are extended to medical emergency vehicles, passenger movement, airport-bound travelers, and security forces following inspection to ensure no commercial cargo is carried. Additionally, all government and private institutions within the jurisdiction of 14 Kuki-Zo villages will remain closed until further notice.

The committee cited official indifference toward their grievances compared to actions taken during blockades by other groups, appealing to blockade enforcers to stay vigilant while expressing regret for public inconvenience. The statement was officially issued by the Department of Information and Media, WCKCSOs-Ukhrul.
