Imphal, August 11, 2026: The Manipur Cabinet has given in-principle approval for the establishment of a Government Medical College in Senapati, with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.
The announcement was made by Losii Dikho on August 11, 2026, who said the proposed medical college would also be supported by an upgrade of the existing District Hospital to meet the requirements of the institution.
The initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare services and medical education in Senapati and provide new opportunities for students and residents of the district and surrounding areas.
Dikho described the decision as a significant step for the hill districts of Manipur and expressed appreciation for the leadership of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and the support of the State Government in taking the initiative forward.
The proposed college is expected to expand access to quality medical education while strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.
