LAMKA, August 11, 2026: The Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul (WCKCSOs-Ukhrul) has announced the lifting of its Counter Economic Blockade and the ensuing Total Shutdown with effect from 4:30 pm on August 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the committee, the Counter Economic Blockade had been enforced since July 27 and intensified into a Total Shutdown from August 5. The measures were imposed in response to what the committee described as a selective economic blockade targeting Kuki-Zos by certain Tangkhul and Meitei groups along NH-202.
The decision to lift the blockade followed a meeting held at Shangkai at 1 pm on Tuesday between the Manipur Government delegation, led by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and spokesperson Thokchom Radhe Shyam, and the WCKCSOs-Ukhrul.
The committee said the government delegation informed them that an agreement had been reached with the concerned Tangkhul and Meitei groups to end the selective economic blockade along NH-202 against the Kuki-Zos.
A handwritten agreement was also executed between the WCKCSOs-Ukhrul and government representatives. Under the agreement, the government undertook responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of NH-202 and preventing any blockade or disturbance by any group.
In view of the assurance of free and non-discriminatory movement of essential commodities, the WCKCSOs-Ukhrul said it had decided to lift both the Counter Economic Blockade and Total Shutdown from 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
The committee appreciated the government's intervention and said it expected the agreement to be implemented “in letter and spirit”, ensuring that no community is subjected to selective economic restrictions.
Normal movement along the affected routes may resume from 4:30 pm on August 11.
